2013 is promising to be a great year for the post-rock and indie rock junkies (including myself and Koz) who cling to the 90′s/00′s moody/noisy rock claiming it to be the last great musical genre.  We have already seen Numero Group release an unheard Codeine live disc What About The Lonely and we eagerly await the Slint news that David Pajo hinted at late last year.

June 11th marks more great news as Quarterstick records will be releasing Fifteen Quiet Years on vinyl.

After being hidden away for the last several years, Fifteen Quiet Years – all the important Rodan recordings that fans of Rusty have long wished they could unearth!  A celebratory document four years in the making, the collection includes the 1994 BBC Peel session, together with all of Rodan’s long-out-of-print 7″s and compilation tracks.

Track List:

  1. Darjeeling
  2. Milk and Melancholy
  3. Tron
  4. Shiner
  5. Tooth Fairy
  6. Exoskeleton

  9. Before the Train

From the first time I heard HAIM’s Forever, I was hooked.  These 3 women could write some great pop hooks and blend their voices so well with the music………..I could see myself grooving at the I-Bar to their tunes.  With only the 3 song Forever ep to reference, I wondered if they were just a flash in the “buzz” pan or if they were going to deliver on all the promise.

Today we have our first glimpse that HAIM is here to stay and arguably stronger to boot.  Falling was posted to their soundcloud account and while I am bummed that the 10″ single will not contain any other new music (just boring remixes), I am excited at the possibility of new music from HAIM as they are currently finishing up their debut full length.  Listen to Falling below and will the ep will be released April 1st.

Texas Is The Reason – Do You Know Who You Are?: The Complete Collection

In 1996 Texas Is The Reason released Do You Know Who You Are? which provided a tentpole for post-punk and emo bands (as awful as they are) that grace the modern airwaves. After one full-length album they broke up and disappeared in to indie rock obscurity but remained a prominent staple of any SDRE loving college kid from the late 90′s.

Today Revelation Records is releasing a fully expanded edition of the classic album. It includes the original 9 tracks plus 5 rare tracks and 2 previously unreleased songs, which were the final two songs that the band wrote together. The songs were recently recorded with Do You Know Who You Are? producer J. Robbins.

Track list:

1. Johnny On The Spot
2. The Magic Bullet Theory
3. Nickel Wound
4. There’s No Way I Can Talk Myself Out Of This One Tonight (The Drinking Song)
5. Something To Forget (Version II)
6. Do You Know Who You Are?
7. Back And To The Left
8. The Day’s Refrain
9. A Jack With One Eye
10. Every Little Girl’s Dream (previously unreleased)
11. When Rock ‘N’ Roll Was Just A Baby (previously unreleased)
12. Blue Boy
13. Something To Forget (Version I)
14. If It’s Here When We Get Back It’s Ours
15. Dressing Cold
16. Antique

Here is a video that documents parts of a reunion show from October 2012 as well as a few interviews:

Cal’s 5 – Songs of The Week

Sleeping Bag – Walk Home   From their forthcoming album Women Of Your Life, this indie pop gem isn’t a lyric heavy song.  Instead it is filled with happy guitars and even whistling!

Walk Home

Maitland – Embers  A two piece featuring an acoustic guitar and drums, this song starts very simple and then unfolds when the drums warm their way in.  From their 5 song ep released in October.

Embers

Pete Davis – O Holy Night   FOH favorite Pete Davis covers a Christmas standard with banjos, guitar and more.

Lost Animal – Say No To Thugs  A promising sign of a potentially great new artist, this track is taken from his debut full length due out in January of 2013.  You feel the influences but you can’t pin them down

Say No To Thugs

Buke & Gase – General Dome  The first single from their new album due in January is a rocker.  A pounding riff that has me very excited for next year!
