NFL WEEK FOUR 2010

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers talks to his head coach Norv Turner about how they are going to choke again this postseason should they even get there this year

by Ryan Meehan

Here are my key points from Week Three:

1.   The San Francisco 49ers are the most disappointing franchise in the NFL.  In an awful division and picked to win it substantially by almost everyone who writes columns like this one, the 49ers simply don’t put points on the board.  And like a couple of the other teams that don’t look “with it” this year, although it looks great on paper something is drastically wrong.  As I’ve stated before, don’t miss any of Mike Singeltary’s post game press conferences from this point on:  he’s bound to snap at some point.  The 49ers are scoring just 12.7 points per game, 31st in the NFL.  They fired their (very) offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye this morning as well. NFL WEEK TWO 2010

It's very difficult to argue with this photograph

NFL WEEK TWO

by Ryan Meehan

Week One began with the Saints and the Vikings playing a pretty good football game, but not nearly as offensively driven as one might have hoped.  I did a piece on the solidarity statement so you already know about that.

I want to talk a little bit about what happened to the Lions in Chicago.  In short, they got screwed.  If you missed it, Lions second string QB Shaun Hill threw a pass to WR Calvin Johnson that I thought was caught but later it was ruled not a catch. This is a perfect example of a team of officials giving the W to a home team.  Not only did he have possession of the ball, but he palmed it afterwards.  So technically he had possession of the ball twice, and when he did lose control of it, the ground forced the fumble.  Awful call.  And I know that’s not a very popular angle to take in this particular region, but it’s the truth.  It only goes south for Detroit from here on out with Stafford being hurt, another disappointing year.

I REFUSE TO CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THE BRETT FAVRE STORY

By Ryan Meehan

So I get out of the shower on Friday night and ESPN is lit up with all this “breaking news” that Brett Favre will be undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair damage to his left ankle.

I realize I kind of contradict myself by writing an article about how I won’t be writing articles about a guy. So I’m going to use this space to explain why I think Brett Favre has made an ass out of us as football fans. Continue reading

SANTONIO HOLMES TRADED TO THE JETS

By Ryan Meehan

About this…

I get it. Look, Pittsburgh is tired of the bad publicity that accompanies this particular athlete. Yeah, they are making him an example and letting Big Ben know one more “tavern incident” and he’s next. They wanted to get rid of Santonio at ANY expense, and they weren’t really concerned with which pick they ended up getting. What exactly is the difference between a fourth round pick and a fifth rounder? It would seem to me that by that point most franchises would have resorted to picking by position as opposed to which is the best player available.

The main issue that I have with the writers complaining about this is the fact that it’s a buyer’s market. Let’s just put it this way: If you went to Wendy’s and ordered a double cheeseburger and they said “That’ll be $1.41 please pull forward, there’s NO WAY in the world that you would go: “You know what, that’s a really good price for a hamburger, I tell you what…I’ll give you $3.75…Is that cool? WASHINGTON REDSKINS “ACQUIRE” DONOVAN MCNABB

By Ryan Meehan

As a Giants fan, I’m very familiar with life in the NFC East. My team started out 5-0 last year only to get their heart ripped out by, oh, pretty much everybody from that point forward. It’s probably the single most competitive division in any of the four major sports. (Five if you count professional hammer throwing)

Easter evening I was alerted by the news that the Eagles had shipped Donovan McNabb to Washington for a second round pick (No. 37) and a 3rd and 4th rounder in 2011. Now this is exciting for Redskins fans who are excited about new coach Mike Shanahan and the addition of Willie Parker. (who fled the Steelers due to the fact that Ben Roethlisberger’s locker was next to him and he feared that he would either be raped or die laughing because Big Ben looks so much like Bluto from Animal House) There are more reasons for Redskins fans to be excited this offseason as opposed to the last several ones.
