As each week goes by the Fox network proves to me more and more that they cannot put together a solid hour-long show. I didn’t get a chance to get through the pilot episode of HBO’s Luck so my write up will be included in next weeks TV Fix. I am guessing there will be a few shows added to the “flatlined” section as well which is perfectly fine with me with all the good shows coming back in the coming months.
Beware of spoilers
There are a lot of television shows out there and a vast majority of them are pretty average to below average. This new weekly column will focus on some of the shows that have piqued my interest, are trending up/down, are coming back soon or I have given up on the entirely. I would love to hear from you the reader, about what you are watching and enjoying, what has you angry, what are you looking forward to.
Beware of Spoilers
I don’t find myself enjoying a ton of television shows but 2012 will provide me with a ton of things to watch early on with Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Justified and Walking Dead all airing early in the year. These are a few of the highlights to the 2011 television season:
I touched on this show earlier this week and I can’t say enough about how excited I am for this premier. Timothy Olyphant’s previous show “Deadwood” (one of my all time favorite shows) was a great role for him as he tried to bring a little bit of justice to lawless Deadwood. His new role as US Marshall looks to be an extension of his Deadwood role and should prove to be an asset to a great looking show. Guns, crime, girls are a formula for success and I will be glued to the TV for this one.
Justified debuts Tuesday March 16th at 10pm est. on FX
I am still about a week to a week and a half from being back to full-time at FOH (in the process of a move), so I wanted to take a quick moment to write about a few things that have caught my attention, bored me to death, excited me or have left me confused.
- First off, today is the day usually reserved for Oscar reactions, but frankly I didn’t watch more than a minute of them this year, mostly because I didn’t care (and there was an exciting 11 inning Vanderbilt baseball game that I was at). Why didn’t I care? Well let me first explain that, yes I was excited when they expanded the Best Picture field to include more nominees but all the build up just showed us that it was a sham. There were only 2 movies that were even considered for the award, “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker”. If only 2 were even considered by the Academy voters, then why does it matter if you nominate 10 or 10,000? In my opinion, the best film of last year was “A Serious Man” and I could name at least 10 or so more that I would have picked before either of those films. Secondly, the Academy Awards have become more about style rather than substance. We spend more time talking about the fashion (who cares) and each individual film (why do we need a lengthy recap of the best picture noms?) than we do hearing from the actors/actresses, directors etc. whom have all put their heart and soul into each one of these films. Those are just a few of my reason, but I think you get my point.
